The humidity broke sometime last night, but I didn’t notice until this morning. So the kitchen door’s open–that’s about it right now, since it’s supposed to be hot again today. It’s still very warm outside, but not nearly as humid. Hopefully the lesser humidity will stick around.

Today is the dining room and gathering up auction stuff and yard sale stuff (I’ll either have to put a fan in the door as I post auctions or something, so my computer doesn’t overheat) and I’m also planning to work in my bedroom this weekend as well. But now, I have to find something for breakfast, since we’re out of cereal.

I slept straight through my alarm this morning, so I’m going in a bit late.

Last night, hole digging was hampered by a storm that swept through (quickly, but with a lot of nice rain, so I’m not complaining.) I did get the holes dug, so I will have to plant the trees tonight.

We’re all meeting at Red Lobster for Jessica’s birthday (which was yesterday) dinner tonight.

Since it’s supposed to be either 91 or 93 (depending on where you look) tomorrow, I really have to get those trees planted and my beans mulched.

Now I have to go get ready for work.

Testing, testing, to see if the comments show up.

I am so stiff this morning! But it’s a good stiff. :)

I wish I could switch to the new version of Blogger. Unfortunately, because this is my 2,930th post, I still can’t. ARGH!

I don’t like being punished because I write a lot. I’ve been waiting forever! Come on, Blogger, fix it!

Well, the visitation for my uncle was last night and the funeral today. It went well, as those things can, I guess, and my aunt and uncle’s church had a luncheon after the funeral, which was extra nice of them. (It was a Baptist church.) So I will continue to keep my aunt in my thoughts and prayers, because it has to be very difficult to lose someone you’ve been married to for 38 years.

It was nice to see my Aunt Clare and Uncle Bobby from Maryland, though; they came down/across and stayed at Mom and Dad’s last night. They were intending to get in on Sunday, but they ran into snow, and they left today to avoid even more snow.

I have to go back to work tomorrow. After a late night last night (I got home around 10pm) and all day today, I kind of wish I’d taken an extra day. But that’s okay, really.

My books came from Amazon today and so did the cat food. The cat food actually smells decent. Like actual food, in fact, not just whatever-it-is that Purina smells like. I haven’t cracked open the bread book yet, but I did look through the quilt block book. There are quite a few cool quilt patterns in the book–there are 101 total, after all, and none of them are actually ugly–but my idea is to make quilt block bags first. (I’m thinking tote bags to start with.) That will give me plenty of practice, and then I can progress to throws as I go along, and maybe even a bed-sized quilt. We’ll see about that, though.

There are some really cool patterns, though. And I have a feeling this book will be a keeper, reference-wise.

The bread book I’ve seen before, so I know it’s a good one. But I’m glad I have it now to add to my collection.

We went out to play in the snow. Rolling a snowball that is almost as tall as Ethan counts as exercise, I hope, because my muscles are aching.

We made a snow lady, and a snow boulder. I imagine that unless it gets warm, the boulder, at least, will be there ’til spring. :)

We had snowball fights too, of course. It is great packing snow. Bekah and Ethan used my spare garbage can lid as a sled and it worked quite well as a sled. See, I knew I kept it for a reason!

I donated a scarf and hat to our snow lady; I can always wash them later on when the snow lady melts. I don’t think we got to make a snowman last year, so it was nice to be able to make one this year.

Now it’s time for lunch!

Well, it snowed. Not the 1 inch they were talking about yesterday, but more like 3 inches. And it’s sleeting now. Luckily, we don’t really have to go anywhere today, except to Mom and Dad’s later this afternoon/evening.

Miss Mabel wasn’t quite sure what the white stuff was when she went out this morning, but she remembered once she tasted it. She likes the snow.

Now I’m trying to decide what to do: Sit and write for a while, start cleaning my bedroom (this is something I really should do), do the dishes, or something else. Hmm.

January 21, 2007

So after cleaning up the kitchen and rearranging some cabinets, I decided to bake. This was around 2:30pm, so I knew I had plenty of time. I put some bread ingredients into the bread machine for dough, and let it go. And then, I wondered just what we would be eating for supper.

Around 4pm I decided on pizza, which meant I had to really book it to make pizza dough by suppertime. We ended up eating by 7pm, which wasn’t bad, and I also made garlic and rosemary flatbread and breadsticks in addition to the pizza. (All three were made from the same recipe.)

The crust is almost right. I like a really chewy crust, which is hard to achieve in a home oven, but this one was definitely close, and it was flavorful. I really like this recipe. (It was basil and rosemary pizza with mozarella cheese on top. Yum.)

The bread loaf itself hasn’t been cut into yet; I’ll wait until tomorrow for that, I think. And I’ll be making a big pot of chili for lunches next week tomorrow as well; I had intended to have Mom and Dad over for supper, since we didn’t get to do that last week, but my Uncle Bobby and Aunt Clara are coming down for the funeral and they’re staying with Mom and Dad, so we’ll be doing something with them, weather permitting. It’s supposed to snow, but right now it doesn’t sound that bad.

January 20, 2007

I haven’t forgotten the cleaning schedule this weekend; I’m getting some little things done, since I have to work part of the day on Monday.

Monday evening will be my uncle’s visitation, and then the funeral is on Tuesday morning, so I’ll be taking a day off work.

So I’m working in the kitchen at the moment; doing the dishes, going through the last couple of cabinets, and keeping things a bit picked up to maintain the illusion of neatness. :)

Oh, and Zoey peed on Mabel’s pillow–right in front of me–this afternoon. I am wondering if the ‘puke’ earlier this week wasn’t pee, and if it was Zoey and not Loki. Personally, I think that Zoey doesn’t like the fact that Mabel has a big pillow and that she wants the pillow to herself. There’s been more than one time that I’ve had to shoo her off. She will sleep in Mabel’s crate, too, which means Mabel comes to me to get her out. She has never liked Mabel, but I’m not going to put up with this. Mabel lives here too, after all, and I can’t help the fact that Zoey’s cranky in her old age. (Em and I were trying to decide just how old she is a few weeks ago, and we figure she’s about 11 or 12. It’s hard to say.) So back in the laundry Mabel’s pillowcase had to go. And I guess I’m going to try to spray some Nature’s Miracle on the pillow itself, just in case any got through (I don’t think it did, but maybe there was some leftover from last time, if it was pee.)

*sigh*

I love my darlings, I love my darlings, I love my darlings, I love my darlings.

Rest in Peace, Uncle Dorsey.
